Itinerary

4-6 h

Starting off on the Northen margin of the River Douro, you will pass through some of the picturesque villages that strive on agriculture the wine culture of this part of Portugal.

Arriving at Regua, this is where we cross the river south, and start heading further east. This town is regularly referred to as the international capital of Port Wine, as the boats transporting the barrels from the fields all the way to Oporto, mostly started their journey here.

4-6 h

Leaving this town behind, you are now on the way to the highest point in mainland Portugal, so be prepared to climb all the way to nearly 2000mts, if you get there!

You will pass Celourico da Beira, a small town that dates right back to 500 A.C!!

4-6 h

More dedicated to offroad, this day will take you further south. A quick descent out of the Serra da Estrela will take you onto more open tracks and through Serra da Gardunha. You will be passing close to the Spanish border but heading south until you must cross the biggest river in the Iberian Peninsula, the river Tagus – Yes, the one that flows alongside Lisbon into the sea!

4-6 h

Now the roads and tracks start getting quicker and more open, with flowing passages through some typical Alentejo farms where cattle are bread in great numbers.

You will pass through Estremoz, an important village in Portugal’s history, playing an important role in the fight against the moors, in the 16th century, and defending the territory as it is today.

4-6 h

The last day, and you will ride until you literally hit the Atlantic Ocean. The first major passing point is Minas de São Domingos, an old copper and sulphur mine that came to a close in the mid 60’s.

Heading south, right close to the Guadiana River, that separates Portugal from Spain, you will start to smell the ocean and the beaches of the Algarve as you get nearer the finish line.

Still having to pass a little part of the Algarve mountain range, you can appreciate some of these old villages and great scenery just before getting to the destination, right next to the sea.
